Notables

  • CULLIGAN DOGGIES: Doggies were 32 bones a piece and claimed by BearCat (#2, 5' 7"), LongIron (#8, 14' 8"), GoTee (#11, 9'8") and FingZ (#14, 19')
  • DYNAMIC PHYSIO SKINS: BigCat only played nine holes but it was certainly worth his while to head out today as he records back to back birds and both hold up for the skin netting him 76 bones. Only one other skin by McGoop as he is the only Slammer to par the 5th today
  • GRUMPY's STATS: Smitty became #11 to reach 1100 points and 11th to have 75 draws when he and FingZ were all square in their match

Quotables

  • We're gonna die
  • Well we got to play today!
  • We drove all the way to Myrtle to play in Ottawa
  • Can you clean the ice off my line please
  • After taking a bite of a granola bar offered by Mona to Shortstack..."You broke my tooth!"
  • You are the one that wanted to play the back nine....stop laughing
  • Some of these guys are crazy
  • Keep your tongue off my irons
  • How far do I have to go to get relief from this casual water..."Arizona!"
  • It must have been cold, there were no quotables on Grumpy's group sheet
Event: Grande Dunes
Tue Feb 24, 2015
Summary
It wasn't even close. The vote that is. This event at Grande Dunes was quickly voted as the event with the worse conditions ever played in at a Slammer event. This OC is actually worried about completing this write up and being able to adequately describe just how much of a feat it was that so many even stepped out on the first tee. We arrived at Grande Dunes just before 7am and were informed that the superintendent was evaluating the course to see if they would open at all on this super chilly rainy day. All the clubs were unloaded and we gathered in the pub for some hot coffee and breakfast. Around 9am we got the word ... we were going to be allowed to set out on the first tee. Pretty sure all were thinking that was somewhat of a bad idea. In the end, three Slammers decided at the hotel they would not attempt the day .... we lost three more before the first group went out and four more only completed 9 holes and called it a day. But the rest of us trudged on. Twenty Slammers continued and finished all 18 holes under the following conditions: Below zero temps and rain that would not cease all day and accumulated on the carts, clubs, grips, hats, greens, flags and flagsticks. The ice accumulation was severe and all the windshields of our carts required scraping with hotel access cards and the back of irons. When visiting SC in February, ice scrapers are required apparently. Before every shot the face of irons had to be scrapped and if you left your grips exposed for even a minute they were coated in ice as well. Flags and flagsticks were fully coated in ice and when you pulled the pin and dropped it to the ground you had to make sure it wasn't close to anyone's line as the ice would shatter off and leave a trail of thick ice chunks. And there were icicles, everywhere, including the awning to the entrance of the clubhouse that was clipped by Duke on our way out. That's another story but photos of the entire day can be seen on the Slammer Facebook page. There were survivor photos taken and probably t-shirts will be printed. Yes, we are Slammers...but today pushed the limits of what we can take and most said they wouldn't do it again. Ah, who are we kidding. Of course we will !!

Stars
Roesy (r)
Roesy was playing in his very first Slammer event today and dealt well with the conditions as well as his competition. He starts the day unranked and records the three upset wins...first with the default win over Schteeme, then taking down LongIron and Shortstack to finish in the top 20 of the Slammer ranks! Roesy is obviously a natural born Slammer and under the worse possible conditions will begin his career ranked #14! Congrats and hope to see you out a lot this season!
Jam
Jam is another natural and kicks it into gear on this tough day taking down three Slammettes and recording his first ever 6 point day! Jam is no longer a rookie and has a great start to his second year on Tour as he now sits in the top 20 of the Slammer ranks. Well done!
Ryan Hardy (r)
Under normal circumstances a star mention would not be awarded to a player that only completed nine holes but today was exceptional in every way and even though BigCat only joined us for half the round he came out firing on all cylinders recording birds on two of the first three holes he played and earns the skin for both. He defends against RipZone and Magnum and goes all square with buddy Herc....you two should have played until the match was settled !
