Notables

  • So the last day and seven races, to decide the top ranked divisional Slammer. Six #1s didn't defend. The Only Slammer that came into today's event and successfully defend thrice for his title is Grumpy's vote for the Most Stylin Slammer. Pukey J, did his namesake business in the morning, arrived and ended the season a lot better than his first event. A Most Welcome addition to the Tour.
  • Also gaining their divisional top ranking as a rookie were Duke in the "C", Wally in the "Super Senior", chill in the "ladies", and Hitch in the overall. Do you know how often they have been stars? two today.
  • The only two veterans to win their division were the all time leader in events - Ticklar as the "Senior" and Grumpy {who has also played a few events} in the "D".
  • Please notify me IF you are aware of the fact - that due to the hole that you started at - there was any ten-holing in your foursome.
  • WOW! - a group shot of the Slammers at the season ending event. We had fifty entered - then lost Irons, so I invite you to go to the Facebook album that pointZero has set up and see the group shot - containing 48 Slammers - everybody who texts me {613-864-3142} before midnight Friday will win a pair of tickets to the Ottawa 67s game of your choice. Here is the question - who is the only Slammer - NOT in the picture but AT the event... I know who and I know why.
  • Notable number one - can you say FIFTY! {If we mention it one more time - then Sunny can have his favourite beer} Yes Slammers - it did finally happen. There were a few sightings of Eddie on the green these past few weeks but the first one in November to be handed back at the nineteenth, with some bones attached. In fact the 62 bones collected, is her biggest take - even beating her other record breaking feat of 5 in an event. Iron Maiden hadn't had a dog since October 30, but now is the ONLY Slammer to get 50 in a season. Her fifth career Canadian dog will be ever remembered as her 50th in a season. Another memory will be that it happened on the day that she became only the 7th Slammer to play in her 350th event of her career. Look out Bookie - you are the one that she will pass next, just before passing Rulz. She is my vote to be the first two time Preston Cup winner as Slammer of the year.
  • Notable two goes out to today's fourth star. Yes if we handed out such a thing it would go to that Most Adorned Slammer. Ticklar won the senior year-end ranking battle. He was undefeated, had two birdies, had a dog, and another that was cut-off late, by Inch. See that PapaMalone! I never even mentioned that you also beat Tick and Inch, but your second putt tickled the hole by an inch.
  • Poor BearCat. There was a withdrawn Slammer. He was in BearCat's group, and because he bailed late, his opponents gained his rank. BUT because, during this final event - we could not leapfrog - the divisional final fours, he didnt get the rank. Luck of the draw. Note that you did get the win and the points.
  • On that final note - I would like to take my hat off to the Assistant Commish for all of the doings this past week. Thank you Malone, and I know that I am not alone, when we heard the clapping at the event. I know that it may not appear perfect - just realize that we are moving closer to THAT goal. Send your comments in, they are appreciated.

Quotables

  • "You will find that ... on the ICE!"
  • "My wife won't talk to me when I get home." "What! She shouldn't be doing you any favours."
  • "Anybody have a drill?"
  • "White (orange) tees are my friends."
  • "OH SH*T! I didn't think that was going there."
  • "Hey Pizza, have you got anything 12 inches to measure with?"
  • "Chef likes to keep his balls warm. The way he shot today, he might miss."
  • "Hi Grumpy, I noticed your comments about Juice in my write-up and want to give you the real story...It was really Juice who pushed the cart most of the way down the 18th hole. I kept trying to get her to switch because she was saying “my heart is going to explode” but she said that her back was not as bad as my knee so she wouldn’t let me. I only pushed part of the way – closer to the clubhouse – maybe you saw that and it was this that prompted your kind but slightly misinformed words...Juice was the hero here! We never would have made it back without her as the cart was on its last battery spark. I would appreciate it if you would remove the comment from my star section. She certainly deserves (in my opinion) a notable for this effort. (of course this is all at your discretion)...Regards, chill"

Summary
The event ran very smoothly, however, not "without a hitch' .. otherwise then we could have called the event "Blame it on Rio", even with a chill in the air. The first ever co-OC event using two OCs that played a combined 217 events this season. 1 season, 246 events, 287 Slammers, 105 that played more than 10 events to be 'official', of which 34 were rookies. Another 23 rookies will lose their (r) for next season, by playing their five events. All records! I remind you all that today's event was a shotgun start - and you may think that the results {matches and when they ended} are off a bit - from what you remember. Just go to the bottom of the page and change the starting hole - another GREAT job by pointZero to program this option. Seven ties today on this final event that happens exactly 8 months and a day after the opener on St Patrick's day at Prescott. 246 events in this season, and in fact there could easily have been a 247th - if we included the Brockville Challenge as an event {like the Dragonfly one}. Golf is not yet done - there will be an event(s) to start the next season and it (they are) is already announced on the schedule page.

Stars
Hitch (r)
The event ran very smoothly, however, not "without a hitch'... So, Saturday's event ends and because Rio had three bogeys in a row on 13-14-15 to Chef's three pars, they drew and Rio didn't get to play in the "BIG FOURSOME" today. So like all competitive Slammers, he went home and put a call out to Hitch, offering to "buy" his spot. Hitch declined and played a solid round. In fact so solid that he is the ONLY Slammer to ever beat Nolanator. That win? Well it included two birdies , and an undefeated day {am checking - because at the event - it was reported differently}, including an upset of Chef and Woodsy. A match below his scoring median and only one stroke away from his career Slammer best. Only the eighth Slammer to be at the top this season. We have a new #1 ... See you at the Slammies!
Rio (r)
The event ran very smoothly, however, not "without a hitch' .. otherwise then we could have called the event "Blame it on Rio", ... Have you ever seen so many people so happy about a skin sweep? For the second time in the last five events we had a skin sweep. And NOT by Lucky. The difference this time is that the kidz - didn't get any of the bones (see the Wednesday event at Falcon Ridge - if you want to know what I am talking about),. There are deals in Slammer land - and I am aware of three guys that agree to split with each other - any of their dog or skin bones. So Chef {0-3}, and Malone each got 80 of Rio's bones. Nobody was surprised that Rio's second eagle of the season {#17}, was good for a skin, however of today's 34 birds - his on #14 was the only one NOT cut-off. That's correct two skins worth 120 bones each. 49 Slammers playing a temporary green / flagstick length gimme, and nobody else had their second shot within that distance? Only ONE of these guys was good today. By the way, Rio did manage to hold on to the seventh ranking by going undefeated. His only loss today, actually happened a few hours earlier when he couldn't convince Hitch to withdraw the challenge ... see above. If Rio had been able to do so he would have beat Nolanator 4 and 3.
chill (r)
The event ran very smoothly, however, not "without a hitch' .. otherwise then we could have called the event "Blame it on Rio", even with a chill in the air. ... Well, we had a couple of choices here. chill {did you ever notice the lower case - name change? Like springlakes and pointZero, she doesn't start with an upper case}, won the third star because in a field of 49 slammers, she was one of the 12 undefeated ones, but was the ONLY one to have three upsets. Along the way she vaulted from 34th step all the way up to the 19th on the ladder. Her foes? Well three Slammettes who have been in this league a long time. She closed ZenGirl on hole six (their fifteenth). The following hole her second upset was over Juice 3 and 2. Also on that very hole she took down the top ranked Slammette - and even at her own game. Yes folks Iron Maiden - the doggie QUEEN, had a four on one of her succesful pancakes - to succumb to the chill. Congrats chill on being the season ending highest ranked Slammette, for going 3-0, and for being such a good sport and pushing Juice up the hill in her cart after the match.
