Notables

  • Notable ONE … Honourable Mention for today goes out to Ace. I apologize for making the third star announcement at the event and then having to withdraw it. Ace had three upsets today, moving up the ladder from 61st to 47th, and had two birdies along the way. He also collected a dog {14 inches from the pin} and a skin on that long, along the water #11.
  • Notable TWO … Warning to all of you Slammers – especially newbies. You don’t have to buy the toilet paper! Woodsy was up 7 after 7 and then he blew it and only had a bogey on eight. See the second quotable.
  • Notable THREE … Speaking about Woodsy. There was an unveiling of his graph for this season. Today is his 27th event. The graph shows that this season he has been #1 from May 18 – July 26th, when he lost it to the current #1. Well many Slammers know that it is easy to drop through the rankings and often due to other people, but he has never been lower than #16 all season.
  • Notable FOUR … Smitty’s win over {and he beat them both on the same hole} Pistol Pete and XL Easy today was his 450th career Slammer win. He was the eleventh to do so and will jump into 10th all time when he surpasses KidsClub, later this month. Smitty’s next point will be his 100th of the season.
  • Notable FIVE … In doing the research for the introductions, I came upon a quote on Inch’s profile page. “Married 30+ years to the most amazing woman in the world!” Well Brother, a few of us met her last night and you did OVER-achieve! Unfortunately this was missed at the tee box as this group was using three different boxes and there was a big debate as to where the Clang drive left the fairway.
  • Notable SIX … Speaking about that drive. It went left and straight and into the gorse. So we saw a bounce. What happens – when you get there and cannot find it? The point of entry was 100 plus yards back down the fairway – it is NOT a hazard. I think there is much confusion about it as a lateral – or point of entry. Also, that we can ONLY play a provisional, IF at a hazard.
  • Notable SEVEN … Raker has left the D class. He will be a C for at least the next three events. Go ahead and stay there and prepare my place as well.
  • Notable EIGHT … Where is Boomer? Next weekend he will be passed for the third time this season in the Most Events race – dropping down to seventh. He and Rulz were 4th & 5th at the beginning of the season, but are soon to be out of the TOP TEN!
  • Notable NINE ... One last minute shuffle of the foursomes had a few early to bed people surprised in the morning. See the first quotable.

Quotables

  • “I checked at five to ten then went to bed.”
  • “You don’t have to BUY the toilet paper, You cheapskate!”!
  • “Play a good game or get out the knitting needles.”
  • “Winning the Indoor Tour Championship is like winning the Kindergarten Beauty Contest.”
  • “Blue, you’re making heat with that jacket on. But NOT in a good way!.”
  • “Bounce three times, in the fairway if you love me. Once in the ditch if you think I’m a Wanker!”
  • “Raker is playing like a b-d PLAYER. Par – 8 – par – 8 - par!”
  • “What is the MOST boring thing in the world? Talking about your golf game.” “What is the most interesting thing in the world? Talking about MY game”
  • “If I don’t challenge the Open players – I may have to play FGC. I can’t drink THAT much!”

Summary
Before I go on to write this report – I must thank you for your patience. On the seventeenth green a migraine hit me. I am fortunate that I only had seven shots left to play. I struggled through the presentations and then high tailed it out of there. Straight to bed! The next morning at 4:00 I was at St Pius high school to leave on a New York City week-end. GO STEELERS! Then this techno-retard couldn’t get the hotel Wi-Fi to work. Back to the write-up….. Today we get the opportunity to once again be guests with our friends at GreyHawk. AS expected there were 20 golfers that jumped at the chance. Was it because of the fantastic weather conditions, or workforce schedule adjustment? I actually had a couple of Slammers ask me to contact them IF somebody bailed last minute. The last one to arrive must be a real time management Guru. The Owner got to his tee box just in time to hit and off they went. He was able to change into his golf shorts right after his third shot on the second hole. Please continue reading as you may find some surprises – especially in the three stars categories

Stars
Malone
Today he went 3-0. He provided the paper to clean up after the ass kicking that he handed one opponent and another was only playing in his third career event. But this stardom came more as a result of his individual efforts, and the fact that he was in the premier match of the day. He took down a pretty formidable opponent in the name of Woodsy. They battled back and forth all afternoon. Never was one ahead by more than a hole up to and including the fifteenth. Malone birdied it from way downtown {maybe it was Uptown}, and never looked back beating Woodsy 2 and 1. Oh yeah – did I mention, five birdies, three skins, and his 100th career dog all collected along the way. I guess that although I was playing with him, received the Toilet Paper, and partnered with him to tie the other two on the 18th, I never noticed the brilliance. Or maybe it was the brilliance that CAUSED the migraine... you migraine sufferers will understand that bright lights and brilliance can suddenly bring on these afflictions.
Flyer (r)
At the event I had announced that Flyer was the first pick. How it started was that I saw a 77 on the group sheet. After making the decision, and while I was trying to read the report, I noticed that it was a 79, and thought, about it. Then as I entered the scores that night – I saw an adding mistake and he was now at 80. The 77 would have tied his career best. The 79 would have tied his career second best, BUT the 80 will have to be one of his 4 sub 81 scores. Scores don’t matter – this is MATCH PLAY. How did they go? Well he was also 3-0, although two of his wins wouldn’t be considered as an upset – but that ONE over Smitty ended 3 and 2. This rookie played in his 45th event. Only four rookies have done so. There is still a month to play.
Rexall (We Remember)
It is always hard to quickly choose the three stars in a few minutes. So here was the toughest choice, for me to make, until after the fogginess cleared. My decision goes to this Super Senior, and my Honourable Mention over there on the left gets 4th. Rexall’s foursome approaches the tee box. As you know at Predator the starter stays a couple of hundred feet away and lets the group approach only after the last hitter has left the tees. They approach and get introduced as Team West. Four orange members in the same group – and Captain Sunny is even in the house albeit not as a Slammer today. The usual kibitzing among teammates, the poking about tee boxes and the cigar lighting by half the team – then they leave. Oh yeah, only after their drives. The first upset for the #81 was over #32. NO! that is NOT their ages. Clang went down 5 and 4. Inch bogeyed #16 to go down 2 and 1, and give up 11 more rungs on the Slammer ladder. Rexall’s third par in a row was good enough to also shake hands with Blue on the 18th tee. This third upset of the day moved our favourite curmudgeon {is he the oldest?} to #10. Now that you have gone to check your Funk & Wagnall, just realize that I didn’t know how to spell ‘maquereau ’, which only my francophone friends will comprends.
