Notables

  • As reported at the beginning of the event, four of my favourite things have happened here. Today we add a fifth – check the three stars!
  • MILESTONES – Chip me in and Boomer are playing their third career match. Chip wins again (3-0 career) and this time earns his 300th point. Gaziff plays Gatorette for the first time and when she wins – he is the 65th Slammer to get 200 losses (took 115 events to get there). Grumpy also beat Gazzif and became #21 to reach 1100 points.
  • NK Bear may not be the first star but returned to the site of her first slammer event 3364 days ago. Hey NK did any of your playing partners ask you how you beat Malone (who shot a 72) that day
  • Gazzif (Live entity transportation engineer for City of Ottawa) may not be the second star but is here (ST) for the first time this season. Only his third event in two seasons, but this is his 115th event in his career. Welcome Back! He is member #153 to join Nivlac’s club.
  • Bookie, the senior statesman (16th season) may not be third star but he sure is one of my heroes – I hope that I can walk as many 18s when I get to his age. AND two dogs, was narrowly edged out for a star!
  • Course rating – if you look over there on the right – you will notice that each event rates the course. Each group has a sheet and there is a spot to fill that out. Today only one person entered a number and that Slammer obviously was NOT pleased – so take ownership – if you disagree with the number be sure in the future to give a number that you agree on. (THAT same person did like the BEER!)
  • Final NOTABLE - Mulder came to one of his least favourite courses today. He proved his love of the course by blindly going 0 for the field (0-11). He truly does like all of the staff, but cannot conquer LG. He came for a reason and I THANK YOU. Even people who state that they don’t want or like being acknowledged DO appreciate the thanx extended by today’s gang. There is a video and some pictures floating around. For those of you that ask questions like what does one get for their 800th – I do not enjoy answering BUT I will point you to this page (it is clearly written): https://new.slammertour.com/Join/join.php
  • Oh yes – those five top memorable moments: 1ST – November 9, 2009 – this quote by Chilly “Jamie recognized there was a niche market for a bunch of social misfits....so he created the Slammer Tour!”. 2ND – May 5, 2012. Everybody’s favourite skunk holes the longest Slammer Tour ace in history on hole 8. 3RD - June 9, 2012. The first lady of the Tour – IM gets five of the six doggies (missed only Pepilepu’s #8). 4TH - June 26, 2016. The guy with the record most events in one division, after 651 events as a D, plays his first as a C player (it lasted two months). 5TH - and now TURNERGATE - I MEAN turnerGATORS.

Quotables

  • “He had his 25th career dog last event. He also had his 25th career dog last event." “What’s a doggy?”
  • “I’ve been over there so many times. Why don’t they just move the green there?”
  • “I apologize! I shouldn’t swear when making a bad *%^$#*$ shot!
  • “Show me the line!” “I’m going to putt it right in the hole.” “Why would you do that and SHOW him the line?”
  • We would have so many more if Chip me in wrote down all of his Lady Di - Michael Jackson - Rock Hudson shots comments. (he claims to wanna give credit to Stymie or doesn't want to be charged with plagiarism.)

Summary
Welcome to our first event of the season at Lombard Glen. Today is our 132nd local outdoor event of the year. It is our 44th largest! I can’t help wonder how big it would have been if the eight people that expected to be at The Marshes actually qualified! All we needed today was Tina Turner singing Sly Stone’s ‘It’s a Family Affair” – see the three stars. Thanks Mike, Paul, Cynthia and Dianne for another great Lombard event!. Happy Birthday Steamer and PinShark!

Stars
Gator
Gator – he sure is hot! Has spent most of the year as the C1. Now some of the opponents are talking about and asking when he will move to B division. First things first – he has now moved back to T5 from T4. Today, whilst playing back there – he shoots another solid B score and defends his #1 against three earnest Cs (all within the top ten). How did they do? First to go down was Mulder (C6) after thirteen. Bookie (C5) two holes later, and the sweep happened with his back to back bogeys on the final two par threes, where he took down the coloured trajectile (C9). This is the 7th first star award for the gator and his 18th time on the podium for the year. By far the star points leader.
Gatorette
Gatorette – Mrs Gator lost D1 her last time out one week ago. At that event she was quoted as saying “don’t lose my D1”, well he did the next day, and she showed up today as D6. No problem, she easily took down her three D opponents (all with her par on 17), and will wake up as D1 on the morning that she next plays. Gatorette’s third trip to the podium and first time as a second star this season.
Ali G
Ali G – and baby Gator makes three! The only Turner loss on the day was when mamma beat baby! You have all heard of them eating their young – well I warns ya all – when they are having a full contact match – get out of the way. “No, I can’t give you that putt!” He may have had the only loss in the family but McDonalds on the way home was on Junior for his two dogs. Hats off young man – for walking up to group two and apologizing for hitting their cart! Three times honoured with the bronze medal this season.
